Ellen G. White - A Psychobiography

There are only two works in Adventism that have attempted to apply some psychological evaluation to Ellen White, an activity that is nearly considered to be blasphemous by many Adventists. Janet Numbers Swain has written a valuable chapter in the revised edition of her husband’s, Prophetess of Health, which will be addressed in chapter three. Bernie Irwin wrote a sympathetic or apologetic psychobiography of the young Ellen, entitled, Ellen White We Never Knew You. The primary value of this volume as I see it, is that it provides a genogram or ancestral chart of the Ellen Gould Harmon White family, and a number of historical insights into the families’ background that are largely based on an unpublished paper by Ron Graybill, former associate director of the White Estate. I have prayed that, if my own attempt at psychobiography provided in this book will do more harm than good, God will not allow it to be completed or published. Otherwise, it is my hope and prayer that many who have been harmed by religious bondage and spiritual fraud will experience deliverance as well as new found freedom. There Ursprünglich beabsichtigten Victoria und Hamburg 88 ihre kriegsbedingte, aber erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit dauerhaft fortzusetzen, eine außerordentliche Mitgliederversammlung von Hamburg 88 sprach 🤶 sich jedoch am 21. März 1919 gegen eine Fusion mit dem damals doppelt so großen SC Victoria aus. Dem Hamburger 🤶 SV 1888 schloss sich daraufhin am 12. Mai zunächst der kleine FC Falke aus Eppendorf an, bevor man sich mit 🤶 Wirkung vom 2. Juni 1919 mit dem etwa gleich großen SC Germania 1887 zum Hamburger Sport-Verein zusammenschloss. Innerhalb weniger Jahre 🤶 sollte dieser neue Verein den SC Victoria von der Spitze im Hamburger Fußball verdrängen. In der ersten Nachkriegsspielzeit konnte dieser 🤶 zwar noch einmal den Meistertitel erringen, musste sich dann aber meist hinter dem HSV auf den vorderen Plätzen einreihen. Dennoch 🤶 zählte Victoria auch weiterhin zu den norddeutschen Spitzenteams. Insbesondere kultivierte das Team um Victoria-Legende Ernst Eikhof das englische Kombinationsspiel. Dafür 🤶 verpflichte man 1922 den englischen Erfolgstrainer William Townley, dessen Sohn Jimmy ebenfalls in den Reihen der Blaugelben kickte. Ein Spielbericht 🤶 von Eintracht Frankfurt aus dem Jahre 1922 weiß zu berichten: „Ein Vergleich zwischen dem kürzlich hier gesehenen hartnäckigen Gegner Nürnbergs, 🤶 Hamburger Sportverein und Viktoria(sic!) Hamburg liegt nahe. Viktoria ist die elegant spielende Kombinationself, jeder einzelne hat viel Verständnis, viel Fußballgefühl, 🤶 hervorstechend das Bestreben, das Spiel flach zu halten; das ideen- und finessenreiche Spiel des jungen Townley, fair und ohne viel 🤶 Kraft, geht durch die gesamte Mannschaft. As a Christian father, I first became aware that I needed a book like this when my pre-adolescent daughter began to pepper me with questions of a sexual nature. She was already being exposed to some rather bizarre ideas about sex in the first grade. Therefore, my primary motivation for creating this reader was to help my wife and I meet the needs of our daughter and her younger brother. However, it is also my hope that other parents will find this book to be a helpful tool as well.
Research, experience, and common sense all tell us that pre-adolescent children between the ages of 5 and 10 are much more curious and receptive to parental ideas concerning sex than teenagers or adolescents. Yet, traditionally if Christian parents have attempted to provide their children with any kind of sex education at all, it has often been a rather awkward attempt to briefly present the "facts of life" at the dawning of adolescence.
This approach seems unfortunate for two reasons. The first reason is because most young people have already obtained the most basic factual information about sex from any number of potential sources before adolescence strikes. So once it becomes a reality, they feel that their parent's feeble efforts to communicate on this important topic are "too little and too late." They often feel embarrassed that their parents are "out of touch" or may even feel conscious or unconscious resentment that they had to learn about sex on their own at an age when their parents seemed unwilling or unable to talk openly with them about their sexual curiosity.
The second reason is that adolescence is a period where young people begin to establish their own independent identity. It is risky and unrealistic for us as parents to assume that our children will be particularly receptive to our Christian or moral values relating to sex at this stage in their development.
